About the centre

AquaMAP came into existence with a IIT-Alumnii’s idea of transforming society through latest technologies and innovations developed by current IITM Faculty.

IIT Alumni wished to facilitate the translation of already developed technologies and best management practices for adaptation and scaled applications to suit different field conditions in India, by leveraging their own experience and wide network with Industry, governmental and non-governmental agencies.

It is with this aim, AquaMAP: Centre for Water Management and Policy at IIT Madras in the year 2022 with seed funding from IIT Alumni Donors Dr. Parasuram Balasubramanian and Mr. Krishnan Narayanan. AquaMAP is conceived and designed to address various water-related challenges using the latest and well-researched cutting-edge technologies developed at IIT Madras.

AquaMAP continues to get good support from IIT Alumni Association and the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.

Objectives

  • Develop smart water management practices to solve complex water problems using innovative technologies.
  • Develop successful case studies to be scaled-up in other parts of the country
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, communities, and governments to create fair and sustainable policies.
